Travelling fun
M and I started our Friday out in Port Townsend, a little Victorian community about 90 minutes from home. Cute little town with lovely buildings and fun shops. The town has 2 yarn stores but I have a feeling that only one is worth going to… I went to one and was unimpressed. Although the yarn store was a disappointment, look at how cute the buildings are!
We then worked our way up to Sequim. (Pronounced Skwim) Sequim is a little banana belt where it never rains. I’ve only been there once in my entire life when it happened to be sprinkling a bit. But never have I seen real rain there. What’s even a little more odd is that there was no wind the entire weekend in Sequim. We drove 3 miles outside the city and there was wind and cold like you wouldn’t believe. There was snow like mad but not a drop of wet on the ground in Sequim. It’s an odd little place.
Here’s the view from the road in front of our hotel. Those are the Olympic Mountains in the background. Sorry it was so dark but the snow clouds were coming down the hill.
I’ll stop there for you short-attention-span types… More on Sequim and my yarny adventures tomorrow. Also tomorrow, close encounter with a gull and freakin’ cold weather.
One year ago today…
I married my M. It’s been a twisted, crazy year but there has never been a second thought or worry behind that decision. He’s stuck by my side and I’ve stuck by his with love and devotion. He’s my soul mate, my equal and my teacher.
This weekend, we celebrated by getting the hell out of town. Pictures to follow. Pictures of snow to follow. Answers to questions after that.
Happy Thanksgiving
Happy day to you, boys and girls. I don’t care what anyone says about the founding of the holiday. It’s beautiful regardless of its dark past. Just like Christmas and Halloween, every family has their traditions that they repeat annually. When you’re away from home for a long time, you appreciate what Mom and Dad did for you for all those holiday celbrations. Now I’m back and I don’t think I’ll ever leave again.
Pictures are often hard on one’s soul.
Again, I had planned to have completed socks to show off. Best laid plans…
We had another “Storm Event” in the county today. That translates to downed trees, blocked culverts, overflowing storm water ponds, etc. I’m thankful for my previous experience in other departments with the County family. It has given me a great understanding of who precisely to call in emergencies rather than blindly calling another office and hoping the person answering the phone knows who I should call.
So, as I dug through some photos, desperate for blogging material, I felt a little pang that reminded me how much I miss my WeHo S&B friends.

Tuesday
I meant to finish some socks lastnight but promptly crashed out after dinner. So I therefore bring you yet another picture of the view from my patio. This was taken during my morning cuppa. I get up at 6ish these days and give myself an hour to goof off before leaving for work.
That’s my mountain!!!
Happy Monday
I might have scored myself 7 full fleeces, right off the sheep, today! I don’t know how exactly it came to that point but I spoke with two people, both of whom had “a friend” and they both promised to look into it for me. I’d given this guy (a wood worker) the idea to make drop spindles and let him inspect both of my nicer models. He asked me to road-test any that he makes. Of course, I told him I’d love to and he promised to investigate whether or not there is fleece in storage for the last 3 years from two sheep he happens to know. I’m positively giddy about the prospect!
Another gal, was just a really nice lady who has one fleece that she doesn’t feel like washing and carding. I don’t blame her. Someone gave the fleece to her so she said she’d be happy to gift it to me. I’ll probably be sick of the washing and carding after just one. But I’ve got to learn it all if I’m going to be doing this.
Where am I going to draw the line? Shearing? Yes. I think I’ll draw the line at shearing.
A funny little something
I was digging through some pictures, desperate for some blogging material because I’m just beat and can’t think. I came across some fun pics and was immediately amused by family resemblances in both my family and M’s.
Here’s M (left to right), his nephew, sister and brother. D’you think maybe they’re related? Just a little? (As always, clicky for bigger.)
Here’s my dad and his sisters. See comment above.
