Lace Problem and Some Handspun

Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions. I’ve stopped whirling like a top now so I might actually be able to think clearly now. Or a least a little more clearly.

First, Fyberduck, I did offer to knit silk stockings. I was turned down. It will be a late summer wedding and DD says she won’t be wearing any stockings of any kind.

Second, AnneMarie from PA, thank you so much for posting a comment. You totally made my day.

Ahem, *nudge* Su… I know you’re there. And Ansgard. Christine’s out there too but she reads in spurts so she gets a pass today.

Back to the subject at hand. I emailed a bit with Jason today. He reminded me about A Gathering of Lace. I picked it up during a Knit Picks shopping spree tonight. Along with Lace Style which was just reviewed by Julia. Julia is a sweet gal, willing to drive all the way across town to join you at a spin-in (even though she’s never met you before) at the drop of a hat. And I find her fashion sensibilities to be my speed.

Something that I’m VERY exited about is that I found a site in an ad in the latest IK issue. CHECK THESE PATTERNS OUT! I think I’ll be buying them all.

And now for the handspun. This is a Blue Moon Fiber Arts colorway (I believe it’s called Storm), picked up at the Oregon Flock and Fiber Fest last September.

Here’s Luna for scale.

Eeep!

My friend, DD, is getting married. I opened my yap and offerred to knit something for her to wear as a wedding gift. Whether or not she wears it at the wedding and/or reception, I don’t care. However, I want to attempt to make it something she’d wear at least to the reception.

I have considered the Swallowtail shawl but I feel like it’s too small. Although DD is an amazingly small woman, I want something that can drape off her elbows without too much hassel to keep the dang thing on.

I’m looking for suggestions. Yarn and pattern both. I want lace. Yarn can either be pure white or a springy sage color. I want blocking info for any yarn suggestions. i.e. how well something holds its shape post-blocking.

Help. I have 4 months in which to do this.

Weekend review

First of all, I want to say a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my pal, Christine. I haven’t seen her in many, many moons and I miss her terribly. But, as is often the case, when we talk, it’s as if it was yesterday that we obsessively collected plant-life and aquarium fish to enrich our lives. It’s Christine that introduced me to a more healthy way of living. Now, if I can just quit smoking.

Secondly, thanks for all the well wishes. My back is much improved. Fortunately, I had my new MP3 player to keep my company while I was laid flat-out in bed for a day and a half. I’m unable to spin (which is going to push me over the edge in a very short period of time) but I’ve been able to knit. Nearly done with a new pair of socks for M.

Also, some FO’s for you. We like our hats in Chez Segal.

The yarn is Cherry Tree Hill cotton. I can scarcely remember picking up the ball. I’ve been holding on to it (after a couple failed sock attempts) for just the right project. Don’t ask me the colorway. I’m sure I still have the ball band somewhere but it’s burried deep in a box somewhere.

I Think I Caught the Clutz Virus

Bad thing for the day: I threw my back out. I’m still reeling from the idea that this will screw my spinning for the next week.

Good thing for the day: I threw my back out while bending over, looking in a glass case at the MP3 player that I ended up purchasing. Mmmmmmm…. Pod casts……

Also, chubby Mew. (He really does still have a head. It’s just hiding on the other side of the sofa back.)

Mom’s 2nd socks

Just to clear up any possible misunderstanding, I consider snarkiness a good quality.

And now I bring you more socks!

Life sure is tough when you’re a cat.

Happy Tuesday

Don’t you just love it when you can jump right over Monday?

Since everyone was super-snarky after that last post, I figured I’d elaborate. ;-) I went to a local church because I was invited by a co-worker (or three). One of them is a musician and he told me that he was going to be doing a special song after the service. So I went. And I dragged M and Mom with me. Actually, Mom’s a Christian so that was fine. M and I were just there for the music. Which was really good, BTW.

And now I bring you, Mom’s first pair of socks! (Don’t judge. Her second pair went better.)

Mark your calendars!

1) I went to church.
2) I did not burst into flames.
3) I did not break out into hives.
4) I did not start spitting and speaking in tongues.

Guilty

I am guilty of not telling friends about a yarn store closing (and thus having a close-out sale) for fear that they will get all the yarn before I have a chance to pick it over.
