Prizes, prizes, prizes!!!

OK. Here’s the deal. No one guessed my pendant animal. Not really. But y’all were killing me because you had the BEST guesses!

Here’s my pendant. Sea turtles are an awesome site. I saw one for the first time on Mom’s island.

Dave technically guessed frog. But since he mentioned a turtle and no one else did, he wins a prize. Silk caps for dyeing! Somewhere between 4 and 6 oz.

Here’s where things get sketchy. Stephieface and Fyberduck are extremely lucky guessers. They both guessed dragon. Having been born in 1976, I am a dragon by the Chinese calendar. (Who the hell would have known that?) While a turtle has no significance in my life, the dragon certainly does. In fact, it’s rather a big driving force in my life. So I think they both deserve prizes.

For Stephieface who is in a family way, 6 skeins of Bernat Cottontots.

For Fyberduck who is a very accomplished spinner, 8 oz. of golden mohair top.

Now for part duex of the contest. You guys made me LMAO. I snorted a lot and the people around me were really curious about my issues. I suppose they’ll learn in time. ;-) So, everyone’s lyrics tickled me for different reasons but I find them equally amusing.

Stephieface, dooood… What the hell am I going to do with you? Seriously… in an office with 3 other women and not one of us knew who Gerard Butler was but there was much squealing after a quick image search. Rrrreeeoooowwrr! For you, there will be stitch markers.

Laurie Ann, what the hell am I going to do with YOU? OMG. So, for everyone else, Laurie Ann has a bit of an advantage as we were SnB buddies and she therefore knows far too much about me. Her lyrics allude to something that I do not feel comfortable discussing on the internets because it would just be rude. But I might be persueded to tell the story in private. Maybe. ;-)

For you, also stitch markers!

Ann Marie in PA, you’re such a cutie! Your lack of creativity had its own creativity involved. Your gooey brains win you 4 skeins of SandnesGarn Kitten, a mohair blend.

Chris, your two silly lines count for something around here *snort*. Because seriously… who can turn down a spinning compliment? For you, there will be a skein of Cascade Sierra Quatro.

Everyone must drop me their mailing address except for Chris (unless you’ve moved recently) and Laurie Ann. Send it to me here: sachi at sachi’s purls d0t c0m (without the apostrophe, of course). I will likely not get these all in the mail before the weekend but somehow, I think you won’t mind.

If there are any allergy problems with any of the fiber, please let me know. I’m totally up for swapping stuff out.

Congrats everyone and thanks for making my birthday so fun!

Yarn diet?

Did I say I was on a yarn diet? Oh… well. Tools don’t count.

So…. I met up with Sarah and Karen on Saturday at the Knitting Expo near Seattle. I was so bleary-eyed after having stayed up late on Friday night (come on, it was Friday!) and I felt like a dork because… well… because I’m sure I was acting like one.

OK. Seriously… Here is my public apology to Sarah, Karen and Teyani. I was totally acting like a dork. I was not my normal, friendly, chipper, giggly self. I’d had only one cup of coffee after a full week of having quad-shots every morning. Add to that staying up until 2 AM working on stuff and then going, “Crap! I gotta get up early!”

And then I proceeded to get lost on the way to the hotel. Which isn’t a shocking thing for me but, just so you know, you have to try pretty hard to get lost in that neighborhood. So, seriously… I’m sorry. I promise that, next time, I’ll be much more intelligent conversation and I won’t keep going, “Ooooo… shiny!” every 30 seconds.

Karen and Sarah (left and right respectively) both scored some awesome stash and some fantastic goodies. I made out pretty well myself. Do you see that big, white bag on the table between them? That’s MY 4.4 lbs. of dark grey merino. *drool*

I also scored a couple lovely books and some superwash.

The superwash, as per usual, is from Crown Mountain Farms. I always have to buy stuff from Teyani and Klaus. I think it’s a disease or something. The superwash is in the colorway “Secret Agent Man” so I got a quick serenade from Teyani as we did a little catching up. That made me giggle.

One of the books has some great history that I very much look forward to reading.

And now, to give you a quick taste of what I was up to, staying up so late on Friday.

Mission Accomplished

That’s right, boys and girls. Janel and I met Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. I did not throw myself upon her feet and kiss her hand-knit socks, as my mother had hoped I would. (She sees nothing wrong with having a full on freak-out fest in front of celebrities.) I did not trip over something as I was saying hello. I did not accidentally spit on her (or myself for that matter) when speaking with her.

I did not pass out. I don’t think I flushed and turned red until after she was gone. I don’t look red in the picture anyhow. I didn’t frighten her with my over-exuberent “HI!!!!!” when I spotted her. I did not tackle her and frisk her for yarn. There are a million things, all of which involve me looking like a complete moron, that I did not do.

What I DID do however, was give her pearl, crystal and silver stitch markers as I had hoped I would be able. She was kind and accepted them with a “thank you” and was on her merry way. I hope I got the words I intended out of my mouth. To me, as I spoke, it pretty much sounded like, “Dur, dur dur dur duh dur duh.” What I hope I said was “Thank you for sharing so much of yourself with others. You were instrumental in fanning the flames of my already-growing knitting obsession. You’re a kind and giving woman for devoting so much of your time to your fans as well as to wonderful charities. Thank you from, one humble knitter to her knitting hero.”

Did I mention that it sounded like I just said, “Dur…” a whole bunch and then drooled on myself?

Thank you, to the wonderful lady who took this photograph. I’m afraid that I was so damned star-struck that, even though I talked to you a lot on Saturday and stared at your name tag half a million times, I’ve forgotten your name. It’s on the tip of my mind but I can’t find it. Please leave me a comment or drop me an email so that I can find you again. Thank you!

Oh, BTW, Stephanie… Toronto does have a football team. Who knew?

New Purls

I’m so proud of me. These are freshwater pearls, Swar*vski crysal and sterling silver.

My plan is to sneak a set to the Yarn Harlot on Saturday. She’s been such an inspiration to me (without knowing me) and I want her to know. I’m sure she receives loads and loads of gifts from people and she won’t remember my name or face past five minutes but it will make me feel good that I’ve done a little something to give back a little of what she gives to all of us.
