Happy Fathers’ Day!

Happy Fathers’ Day to all you single moms out there. I hope you were all treated like kings.

For Fathers’ Day, Dad got a Garmin from his two kids and their spouses. (Mom pitched in too…) But more importantly, I bought him a pink t-shirt that said, “Dad: Tough enough to wear pink.” He wore it proudly all day yesterday. Two highlights to his day were when he spotted a guy wearing the same shirt on TV at the Astros/Mariners game and when some random lady walked up to him and said, “I think that shirt is pretty cool.”

On Friday and Saturday, I dragged my husband off to the local pub for some good food and fun music. We spent our little Fathers’ Day weekend snuggled up next to the out-door fire pits that line the music venue’s/pub’s patio. BTW, EXCELLENT food and drink.

What did you do with your dad? If your dad is gone, what was a funny memory that popped into your head yesterday?

The rules:
1. Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves.
2. People who are tagged write a blog post about their own 8 random things and post these rules.
3. At the end of your blog you need to tag 8 people and post their names.
4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment and tell them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

1. I drink between one and two pots of coffee daily. No help; all by myself. I AM a Seattle girl, after all.

2. I’m really, really messy. And I mean REALLY messy. My poor family. They don’t know what to do with themselves now that I’m in the yarn and stuff. Fiber is strewn about the house and piled high en every corner. The worst part is that, since I’ve been so busy with the fiber, I’ve been very bad about wielding the vacuum cleaner. Family not happy. But, hey! I do the kitty litter! Doesn’t that count for something?

3. I can sleep for 24 hours, uninterrupted. If the house is totally silent and nothing wakes me up, I will continue to sleep, whether I need it or not. The rare instances of this happening involved a day of dehydration. In other words, I didn’t have to get up to pee for so long that I slept from 7:00 PM to 7:00 PM. It’s freaky. And it’ll mess you up.

4. I never eat breakfast and usually don’t eat lunch. I don’t know why. I just don’t eat. My metabolism is pretty pissed off at me these days.

5. I love kitty bellies. If a kitty is rolled onto its back, it is nearly impossible for me to resist the urge to kiss the belly. Mr. Mew and Luna have finally resigned themselves to this fact; if they expose belly, Mommy will kiss it. Heaven help you if you’re a kitten. I will usually just pick the little buggers up and kiss away.

6. I love chopping wood. I don’t do it very often and I didn’t do it for over 8 years but I love it. It represents a day when Dad thought I was finally old enough, big enough and strong enough to swing an ax without seriously maiming or killing myself… or him for that matter. I love to chop wood because I can.

7. If given the choice between chocolate and fruit, I will always pick fruit. This goes for candies as well; if there are chocolates or fruit flavored sweets, I’ll always pick the fruit. (Don’t get me wrong… I like me some chocolate.)

8. If it’s worth eating, it’s worth putting a sauce on it. Ketchup, A-1, tartar, whatever. If a sauce goes on it, I’m going to use it.

I would love to tag people but I’m not so much with making people feel obligated to do anything. (Don’t worry, Stephie. I’d do anything for you!!!) So here, I give you a list of people I would LIKE to tag. If they choose to do this, great! If not, I totally understand.

I love LA.

I never thought I’d miss Los Angeles. I don’t think I truly do but my heart aches today. I’ve been watching as much coverage as I can get my hands on about the fire in the hills. My first exposure was on a big-name news channel on my way out the door for work. I heard “Fire” and “Hollywood Hills” and damn near had a panic attack.

M was down and out with a flu but I shook him awake and shouted as I ran out for work, “The Hollywood Hills are on fire! Call your son!” At that time, I had no idea where in the hills or what was going on. My stepson lives above the freeway off of Cahuenga, not far from the Bowl mess.

Of course, now I know that everyone is fine, including all of my friends. But my heart aches in a way I can’t describe. I’m sad for a city that I fought so hard to leave. I want to go back so badly right now, as if my presence could some how heal the land.

Eh?

OMG.

Dave, this one’s for you.

OK, Seriously

Ritchie is fine.

From this point forward, no one is allowed to be sick, get cancer, have an accident or otherwise require a hospitalization. Do you hear me? No one!

Ahem. *Gets a grip*

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I can tell you about my wonderful Sunday.

I started the day by driving about 45 minutes to a small ferry town called Kingston. One of the silly landmarks we have is a group of chainsaw carvings (they’re really big up here… I’ll have to take more pictures). These carvings are at the local gas station. The salmon in jeans just kills me. I’ll make an effort to get around and take more pics of the other chainsaw carvings around here. Some are really impressive.

I hopped a ferry, which is always a wonderful way to start one’s day.

Christina, Libby, Marie and I met up at Village Yarn and Tea. This place is pretty small but, OMG do they have what I want!!

This is my first time meeting Marie in person but it feels like we’ve been corresponding for ages, mainly because she’s just the type of person I choose for a friend. In the below, from left to right, it’s Marie, Christina and Libby.

That pic is of us, post shopping spree. Er… my shopping spree. Everyone else was pretty well behaved. Christina picked up a Greensleeves Bare Bones drop spindle and some BFL from Fleece Artist as her new spinning endeavor. Yay, Christina! You know, she plied on her first time out. I did show her how but she plied many hours later and I went through it really quickly so I’m impressed. I think she just has a natural touch for fiber arts in general.

After having some tea, we drove over to Acorn Street for some more misbehaving on my part. I pushed pretty hard to go there because I knew they had a blocking board and it seemed a shame to not pick one up while I was already on that side of the water. Yay, blocking board!

These women made me laugh sooooo much and sooooo hard that I got a SERIOUS headache. I started getting whiny and saying that we needed to eat so we headed out to a local shopping center in the University District (University of Washington). Upon arriving, I was making a big deal about the fact that there were bronze cows out front of the restaurant. I’m big on cows. So, when we left, I made everyone sit on a cow.

I love this picture. No, they don’t all look the best but I think it pretty much sums up the day; lots of giggling.

These two needed no persuading to ride this little calf. This was entirely their doing. I, however, am always ready with a camera. Which means that you should probably think twice about how much you drink when you’re around me.

Alas, the day was over too soon and I headed into the city to catch my ferry home.

A passing

My father-in-law passed away this morning. I may or may not be blogging these next few days.

We are thankful that his struggle with cancer was brief. We are thankful that he made my mother-in-law happy these last few years. We are thankful that he opened his heart and home to us and that he loved us as if we were his own.

Oy, my head.

First of all, thank you, everyone, for the lovely congrats. Just to give you all a bit of a laugh, I had an interview to work at Best Buy through the Holidays this morning. A call came in an hour before the appointment offering another job possibility. I called Best Buy to cancel and I have a meeting with my preferred employer at 10:00 AM.

The job I am getting will be temp and part-time for at least a month. There are several other jobs within the organization for which I qualify and am in the running but, as these processes take some time, I’m going in as a temp. This puts my foot in the door and makes it really easy for the supervisors who are my would-be bosses to walk on over and observe my stellar kick-assedness. In short, it puts me at the top of the list for a number of jobs, any of which I would be pleased as punch to have.

No, Dave. I hate to say it but it’s not fiber related.

I am still knitting, honest. And I have some lovely stuff that I’ve spun up for use but I’m too lazy to go get my camera at the moment. Unfortunately, I have the short attention span thing going on again. I’ve got OTN a vest for M, socks for M, stoley/scarfy thing for the MIL, a lace scarf which I believe will get ripped and turned into something entrelac… maybe, a zip-up cardi for me… actually, I think that’s it. But I haven’t touched the lace scarf or cardi for many moons. The socks, I’m ready to kill myself. I just turned the heel and got 3 rows done only to discover I must tink back about 120 sts. I’m doing 2 at a time on one circular and I got my yarn mixed up.

And can I just say, OMG HUGE EFFING SPIDER CRAWLING ON THE WALL NEXT TO MY MONITOR!!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKK!!!!!!!!! There’s not a man left awake in the house to take care of it for me. Why am I still sitting here and not killing it? This is a shoe-less household. I have to walk a good 20 yards to get something and I’m just typing until it’s far enough away from me that I feel comfortable that it’s not going to fall on my foot as I’m standing up….. *shudder*

OK, going now!
